Neurosurgeon Appointment

After a nice 4 weeks off appointments and therapies, we are back into it for 2012.

Today Violet had her neurosurgical review.

As her headaches are ongoing and still daily and she has had no joy with any meds to help manage them, he would now like to do ICP monitoring to check what the pressure is inside her head. He thinks she may have a partial blockage and this will either confirm this or not.

This means up to 48 hours in hospital and a small brain surgery to have it all attached. Instead of going through her rickham's reservoir or her shunt, he has instead opted to go through on the opposite side of her head to avoid further risks of infection. Although he will need make a burr hole for this which worries me.

He is organising for this to be done in the next 2-4 weeks.

Certainly not the way I thought this year would start.

Oh no - definitely not the way you want to start the year. It will be good to know though - you wouldn't want her to have a partial blockage and you not know about it.

Bummer.

Oh Sarah, my heart just sank for you.

You really didn't need to be starting another school year with surgery!

Her headaches really have been too frequent and need some investigation & hopefully treatment, but... wow, that's pretty serious stuff.

Big hugs to you both, S xx

(Can be delivered IRL on Thurs!)

Oh Sarah, I am sorry to hear this and not quite the nice start after a nice holiday from therapy. I do hope that this helps to discover the cause of her headaches

Geez Louise! What a way to start the school year! Lots of love and hugs to you both xxx If only hospital beds took frequent flyer points you'd be going on one hell of a holiday!
