They mentioned on the phone yesterday they were going to try seaweed dressings, but on arrival there today, they didn't mention these and instead decided on using Acticoat Silver Dressings.
They are using Acticoat 7 which can stay on for 7 days but they want me to check it on Friday to see how it's looking and email them a photo.
They told me I wouldn't need to wet the dressing down as it was a 7 day dressing, but I have big doubts it will stay moist until Friday when they have put on the silver dressing, then allevyn foam and then hyperfix.
From all I have been told about Acticoat by other people I know that have used it is that it needs to be wet 3 x per day.
They didn't decide on debriding it today as they feel the hard section should come away on it's own eventually.
She does now have Cellulitis as suspected last Wednesday and has started AB's again today.
They dressed the ulcer and then after realised they had not swabbed the ulcer and had to remove dressing swab and re-dress!
Trouble is they used saline both these times to activate the silver dressing which apparently when I got home and read more about the dressings online clearly states DO NOT USE SALINE, only use sterile water. Apparently the chloride in the saline does not allow activation of the silver particles.
I rang and advised the CNC one of which is trained in wound management that they had used the incorrect water on it.
So when Violet got home from school I had to re-dress it again using the appropriate water, which felt like a day wasted as the dressing she had on was not doing anything! In relation to my previous comment about it not being moist enough by Friday still, on taking it off this afternoon to re-dress, there was hardly any moisture left in the dressing!
Here is today's photo.
