School may just redeem itself

This morning I had to drop off Violet's wheelchair to the school for the staff stairmate training. When I dropped it off to the Principal we also had a meeting about Violet and Thursdays debacle.

He assured me this would never happen again (Damn straight it better not!) He said he was extremely unhappy about what had happened. He has also now extended Violet's 1 hour per day aide time to 3.5 hours per day and is going to apply for her to receive a full day aide time in the appeal next week. I have to attend this appointment and sign off on her additional needs that are not being met and also the additional needs she will have post surgery...wish us luck!

He said the Disabled toilet will be finished shortly.

He would like me to come into the school on Friday to meet Violet's teacher aide...which I am looking forward to.

I did also contact the DET Disability Itinerant Support Person this morning and she told me he had let her know this morning about what happened on Thursday.

So, sounds like they have started to move forward and acknowledged that the aide time that Violet received is not at all sufficient. Here's to more positive school experiences and in turn posts!

Sounds like you may not need Fam Adv this time.

Keep them up your sleeve in case of future bumps in the road...

Really hope there aren't any though!

Did V go to school today? How is she feeling about it?

Big hugs to you both, S x

Wow Sarah. I can't believe all that is happening at the school. Hopefully this is a sign that they are really trying and that things will get better. I know how hard it is to keep fighting a school that you think isn't doing what is needed for your daughter. Keep up the good work and it should get better. HUGS

It sucks when schools have to learn the hard way that they need to accomadate & prepare for a student. Hopefully they will make good on all their promises. Thinking of you!
